One consistent teacher who knows your child by name.
If your child is struggling with reading, waiting can make it harder.
Many parents are told to “give it time,” but when a child is guessing at words, avoiding books, melting down over homework, or falling behind, they need more than extra worksheets. They need patient, skilled, individualized support from someone who knows how to meet them where they are.
Your child guesses instead of decoding words
Reading homework ends in frustration or tears
They avoid books or say they "hate reading"
You are homeschooling and want expert reading guidance
Your child has ADHD, an IEP, or a 504 plan and needs a different approach
You are not sure whether they are truly on track
The goal is not just better reading. The goal is a child who feels capable again.

The patient, experienced reading teacher parents wish they had on speed dial.
Miss Evelyn is an award-winning retired teacher with nearly 20 years of experience in reading and special education. She has helped students with a wide range of learning needs build skills, confidence, and independence.
Her approach is warm, structured, hands-on, and deeply individualized. Every child is different, so every plan should be too.
How It Works
A structured, supportive approach designed to help elementary students grow their skills and confidence over time.
Assess
Miss Evelyn starts with a 1:1 reading assessment to understand your child's current skills, needs, confidence level, and learning style.
Personalize
Your child receives an individualized reading plan based on their starting point — not a one-size-fits-all worksheet packet.
Build
Through consistent in-person sessions, your child works on the reading skills they need most — phonics, decoding, fluency, and comprehension.
Track Progress
Parents receive regular updates so they know what is improving, what still needs support, and how to help at home.
Why choose a retired reading and special education teacher instead of a tutoring center?
Tutoring Centers
- Often use a standard program
- May rotate instructors
- Can feel busy or impersonal
- May focus on worksheets or homework completion
